Charleston, SC— As the Senate scrambles to avert a government shutdown, new reporting shows Senator Lindsey Graham played a decisive role in stalling a bipartisan government funding agreement, forcing leaders to delay a vote and pushing the country closer to a shutdown. 

Dr. Annie Andrews, pediatrician and Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in South Carolina, released the following statement condemning Senator Lindsey Graham for obstructing the bipartisan deal: 

“We all know that Lindsey Graham is corrupt. But forcing a government shutdown to protect his own cash grabs and special interests is a new low, even for him.

The pattern is impossible to miss. Lindsey Graham raises millions from special interests, boards a plane out of South Carolina before disaster strikes, and goes to Washington to hold the government hostage.

This is the predictable result of a senator who skirts responsibility, and who has spent years putting power, loyalty to Trump, and personal gain ahead of the people he was elected to serve.”

Dr. Andrews added that South Carolina families, military communities, federal workers, and small businesses would once again bear the consequences of Washington dysfunction while Senator Graham prioritizes political loyalty and donor interests over the needs of his constituents.
