Is South Carolina next? Lindsey hopes so.
Columbia, SC — Today, the Supreme Court gutted Section II of the Voting Rights Act.
In response, Dr. Annie Andrews, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in South Carolina, released the following statement:
“Lindsey Graham and his allies will be further emboldened in their efforts to disenfranchise Black voters following today’s Supreme Court decision to strike down Louisiana’s new congressional map.
“By narrowing its previous interpretation of the Voting Rights Act, this ruling ensures that there will be outright manipulation of elections and our democratic process.
“South Carolina is also at risk. Louisiana vs. Callais is further evidence our democracy is under full attack, and Lindsey Graham is already calling for redistricting in South Carolina to disempower voters of color. This comes on the heels of his support for the SAVE Act which will disenfranchise women voters.
“This is their strategy, because Lindsey and Congressional Republicans have nothing else to run on. They have no record of delivering for the people of South Carolina. They have dragged the country into costly, unpopular foreign wars. Their policies have raised the cost of groceries, housing, and everyday necessities for families across South Carolina and the country. They used their power to weaken protections for people with pre-existing conditions, gut Medicaid, and take healthcare away from millions of Americans.
“They can’t win a fair fight on the issues — so they’re trying to rig the map instead. Our response must be to flip Congress in November, and restore voting rights. Republicans know they can only win if they cheat.”
